The pilot centre of the PACT Programme was launched on 26th Jan. 2014, in the lush tribal forest of Yeoor, Thane District, Maharashtra. The 1st Batch of 10 young Adivasi candidates hail from Jawhar, Wada and Dahanu Talukas of Thane.
The chief aim of this 1st, all-womens Batch is to creat e Educational Multimedia that would be relevant to Adivasi populations across the country (visual, animated, local language and concepts), and can be used to provide free education in Adivasi padas across India. For this, they are receiving training in advanced computer skills from Supervasi.
They are also receiving training in a variety of arts, cultural, language, communication and social skills, to help them develop into all-round capable and confident young women.
On completion of their 2-year training, Supervasi will depute them to organise and similar projects in their own villages, and backward areas across the country.
"These are candidates of Pratigya Apprenticeship for Community Transformation, a two-year residential programme where tribal youths are trained to become self-sufficient. After going back to their respective districts, these skills will enable them to teach others and spread knowledge in their community and, in the process, help them earn a living,"
